What happens on the day of the LASIK procedure?
LASIK Questions
- We ask you to arrive at Carter Eye Center 30 minutes before the appointment time for your procedure. One of our highly trained technicians will stay with you throughout your entire experience.
- You should also bring a family member or friend. With your approval, they will be able to view your procedure as it happens.
- On the morning of your procedure you may eat a normal meal.
- Once you arrive, your LASIK technician will greet you and take you through the entire process.
- Our patients usually choose to take mild sedation so they can be more relaxed during the procedure and to help them nap afterwards. Your LASIK technician will then escort you to the laser suite.
- The procedure itself is essentially painless, and most patients notice a significant improvement in their vision right away.
- After the procedure you will be advised to go home and take a nap, and most of our patients wake up feeling little or no discomfort.
- [The whole process takes approximately 2 hours.] Clear protective eye shields will cover both eyes until the next morning (or one eye if you only have LASIK on one eye).
- Most patients notice a significant improvement in their vision the next day, and without the need for glasses, drive themselves in for their initial post-op exam.
