The Positive Impact LASIK Can Have on Your Life

Eyesight is important to us. From doing everyday tasks like reading and driving, to fully enjoying the most valuable moments of life, whether or not we can see clearly has a profound impact on us. It dictates many of the opportunities we are given, which in turn determines what kind of choices that we can make. This has a deep influence on our emotional state, so it is obvious why Americans spend almost 30 billion dollars on eye care.

But when it comes to which vision correction method you choose, is one better than the other? How can LASIK impact your life differently than glasses or contact lenses?

LASIK vs. Glasses and Contact Lenses

Glasses and contact lenses are useful for improving eyesight, but they have distinct disadvantages when compared to LASIK.

Glasses:

  • Can be lost or broken. This happens to almost everybody. It is frustrating, and sometimes dangerous if you lose them at the wrong time.
  • Need replacement. Over time, glasses become worn out or prescriptions change. This can again be frustrating, and will also be expensive.
  • Are uncomfortable for some people. The slide down your face if you bend over too far, and feel noticeable when you lay on your back. They also make playing sports more difficult, as you will need to buy extra protection to put over your glasses if you are afraid damaging them.
  • Not everybody likes the style. While this is totally up to personal preference, simply not everybody likes the look of glasses. Many people choose to wear contact lenses specifically for this reason, but as we will discuss next, there are some disadvantages even with contacts.

Contact Lenses:

  • Are even harder to find if lost than glasses. If you or anyone you know has ever worn contacts, you’ll probably know this story. Person drops their contact right in front of themselves; contact is never seen again.
  • Need daily cleaning or replacement. It’s another thing to keep track of, and if you forget to do it it can lead to more eye problems.
  • Can cause irritation and uncomfortableness. Contacts reduce the airflow to your eye which can lead to dry eye. On top of that, if you fall asleep wearing contacts, your eyes will feel itchy and and gritty when you wake up.

LASIK is not for everybody, which is why you should set an appointment with is if you live in the Dallas, Texas area to find out if it is right for you. If you qualify, you can enjoy the benefits of a LASIK lifestyle.

LASIK:

  • Gives you freedom from relying on glasses or contacts. You won’t have to worry about losing or misplacing them ever again, not to mention comfort and the freedom to do what you want, from baseball, to parasailing, to reading a book with ease.
  • Is surprisingly cost effective. The upfront cost may be a little bit daunting, but in the long run you could end up spending the same if not less than you would using eyewear.
  • Is completely safe. The procedure takes about 15 minutes per eye, is one of the safest operations performed today, has over a 96% success rate (many patients experience 20/20 vision or better), and is virtually painless.
