Cataract Surgery

What are Cataracts?

As we age, cataracts, or clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye, can be a problem. The eye's natural lens forms a white matter which blocks light rays from reaching the retina properly, and this leads to such problems as:

  • Blurred vision
  • Light sensitivity; glare in bright light
  • Color distortion
  • Halos around lights

Many people don't realize right away that they have, or are developing, cataracts, since they're painless, and the initial symptoms can be very subtle. Therefore, once you're in your 40's, it's important to keep an eye out for any changes in your vision, particularly if you start to notice any of the symptoms listed above. Cataracts can cause blindness if left untreated, so make sure to contact us at the first sign of cataract development.

Carter Eye Center of Dallas, Texas offers modern, state-of-the-art cataract surgery and treatment to our clients throughout the Dallas area to help them regain the freedom of clear vision.

A Simple Solution for a Debilitating Problem

Dallas cataract surgeon, Dr. Harvey Carter, uses the latest technique in performing cataract surgery.

  • A topical anesthetic numbs the eye
  • Dr. Carter creates a tiny incision
  • He then uses high-energy sound waves to break-up the cataractous lens into microscopic particles
  • These particles are then removed from the eye and an artificial lens is implanted

To replace the eye's natural lens, an intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted. Since the incision is so tiny, the eye remains tightly sealed by its natural outward pressure and usually, no stitches are required.

Advantages of Dr. Carter's Cataract Treatment Technique

  • The numbing eyedrops eliminate any need for an anesthetic injection
  • The tiny incision eliminates any need for stitches or a post-op patch
  • The procedure is much more comfortable
  • There are fewer possible complications

Most patients notice visual improvement immediately after the procedure. Although cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the world, it still requires excellent surgical skill for success. Dr. Carter has years of experience performing cataract surgery for clients throughout the Dallas, Texas area.
